PROMOTION OF NEW CELTIC SUPPORTERS - HISTORICAL
SONGBOOK
Celtic and Ireland in Song and Story
Compiled by Raymond Daly and Derek Warfield
For the first time a detailed and comprehensive songbook surrounding
key
events in Ireland's political, social and sporting history has been
compiled. The stories and issues impacted upon the recent Irish
immigrant communities in Scotland, noticeably prevalent amongst the
supporters of Celtic Football Club, are focused on in particular.
These
historical songs and ballads have been used by the Irish people to
defend and propagate the many related causes of Ireland. They have
been
known to educate and inform, to bring knowledge and truth through
literature and poetry. Above all, the lyrics and tunes in Celtic &
Ireland in song and story… are far reaching, educational, and of
course,
provide a great source of pleasure.
St Pauli would like
to invite you for the 5th annual Celtic-St.Pauli-Party which will be
held on Feb 23th 2007 in Hamburg-St.Pauli at the usual venue "Knust".
On that weekend FC St.Pauli will play their home league match against
Greuther Fürth and we can offer tickets for that match too because
the new build south stand will be opened then. In the moment it looks
like this: http://www.fcstpauli.com/staticsite/staticsite.php?menuid=181&topmenu=174&keepmenu=inactive
The matchday is not confirmed yet, it could be the Friday 22nd
(kick off 6 pm) Sunday 24th (kick off 2 pm) or (only one match each
week) Monday 25th (kick off 8.15 pm).
We are happy to present again a nice package of brilliant live bands:
In search of a rose from Bielefeld (http://www.myspace.com/insearchofarose
), The BibleCodeSundays from London (http://www.biblecodesundays.co.uk/
) and The Wakes from Glasgow (http://www.thewakes-band.com/
) will guarantee a good night worth to remember. If you are interested
to join the party and the football match, please write to party@stpauli-csc.de
and we will inform you about tickets (both party and football match),
accommodation, drinking laws and all the other important questions.

(THE
POACHER) STEVENAGE CELTIC SUPPORTERS CLUB
I
would like to thank you for adding our notice to the web site for our
members. I would just like to say a very very big thank you to all the
patrons and staff of the Eagle Inn in Coatbridge for making our Bhoys
& Ghirls so welcome. A special
thanks also goes out to the Eagle Inn CSC for changing the size of the
Coach to allow us to travel to the game.
On
our trip we met a few supporters and one of them even commented about
us on the BBC 606 website a copy of the text posted is
below. I would be pleased if you could also add these comments to the
notice board.
At
the game on Saturday I happened to meet guys and some very attractive
women from The Villareal Celtic Supporters Club. Their enthusiasm for
the hoops was nothing short of astonishing.
Another crowd I met were from the Stevenage Celtic Supporters Club, 45
of whom had flown up on Saturday morning. They decided to book a hotel
in Coatbridge because of its obvious Celtic/Irish links. I think that
these guys must be commended. People who pay roughly the cost of a
season ticket for one game.
I would hope that some recognition is made to these people. They
travel from a pub called the Poacher in Stevenage, they run a youth
team called the Celtic Lions, they managed to stop premiership
football in their pub so that Celtic games are shown and yet only one
or two of them are Scottish.
I implore everyone to visit their website and if they can visit their
pub when they are down in the southeast.
They loved their visit and in spite of the performance on Saturday,
One of them said it was less entertaining than a Leyton Orient game,
they will be back.
Good on you guys and I hope to see you all again soon.
This
was my reply:-
I
would like to thank all the Celtic fans we met on Saturday and Sunday
and the wonderful weekend we had. We can see why Celtic are the
Best Fans in the world. Our Club comes from the the South of England
in Hertfordshire and only the Chairman and a couple of the others
originate from Scotland. The club only started after the UEFA CUP
final because the lads from Scotland and Celtic Season ticket holders
going to the match, this gave the insentive to start the club and it
has grown each year to the extent that we have 2 kids teams and a
Sunday team for the adults playing in the Green & White.
I would also like to give a very very special thanks to the Eagle Inn
in Coatbridge for providing a very warn friendly atmosphere for the
Bhoys & Ghirls from our club, and to the Supportters Club which at
short notice changed the coach they had for their members to a 72
seater to provide transport for our club to and from the game. Yes
Leyton Orient game might have been better than Celtic on Saturday,
But!! Celtic is got that special thing which you can't put your finger
on but its there. And yes we will be Back.
Thank you Celtic
from Stevenage Celtic Supporters Club
I
would be pleased if you could add all this to the board and keep up
the good work for the Hoops fans
Yours
in Celtic

I have been asked to
put this on the page:
Celtic FC & the fight against sectarianism
From the start of next season the Football Authorities will deduct points
from clubs if they deem their fans to be behaving in a sectarian way.
The
definition of sectarianism is "intolerance of others" which is
broader than
the "religious" tag automatically assumed in Scottish society
and would
cover racism and other forms of discrimination. In recent weeks this
issue
has once again came to the fore in relation to Celtic which begs the
question; "How do we, the Celtic support, eliminate the offensive,
defend
the inoffensive and ensure that the good name of our club is maintained?
Some would have you believe that Celtic, a Scottish club, with proudly
recognised Irish origins and links is a sectarian club. They would
deem the
"Irish Tosh" and the songs we sing to be sectarian. But
are they? Is the
Tri-colour, the flag of a member state of the European union sectarian?
Is
the "Soldiers Song", the national anthem of that same country
sectarian? Is
the much loved "Fields of Athenry" sectarian? The
misinformed would say
yes, but they would be wrong.
Do we have sectarian songs? Yes we do. "Roamin in the
Gloamin is not only
an embarrassing dirge of a song but it is sectarian. It is
intolerant of a
Christian religion (a faith from which many Celtic fans are drawn),
supremacist in a manner you would never otherwise link to Celtic and does
Celtic no good whatsoever. Why did we have to call Alex McLeish a
"sad
orange b*stard", is that any less offensive that FTP or fenian b*stard?
Conversely, "The Soldiers Song and the "Fields of Athenry"
are clearly not
sectarian.
However, the other problem is when add-ins are included in Celtic songs,
i.e. "The Willie Maley song". Why are these factually
inaccurate add-ins
there? It is pointless. The same with the Fields of Athenry.
The grey area of course exists with the political songs. Are they
intolerant? Are they offensive? Why for instance in the
"Boys of the Old
Brigade" are the words "I joined the I.R.A" sung when the
words should be "I
joined the old brigade"? What's wrong with the real words? Why
the add-in
after this line?
Supporters of other clubs accuse Celtic and Rangers of being sectarian,
however, what about them? In the last 2 seasons at Falkirk we have
been
treated to "F*ck off to Ireland" which is never reported.
We are constantly
treated like sh*t at Tynecastle a situation which now requires a police
escort from the stadium. Going there is now viler than Ibrox.
Then there
is the treatment received by Neil Lennon and Aidan McGeady at every ground
in Scotland. We must ensure our own backyard is clean and then
expose the
other clubs who live in ignorance of their own intolerance.
I for one am sick of being branded a bigot simply because I choose to
support Celtic FC and watch them play away from home. I am sick of
feeling
embarrassed when great songs of our history both football and cultural are
hijacked by those who sing wholly inaccurate lyrics. Visit the
web-site,
put your opinion forward and let us defend our great clubs name. http://celticchange.proboards101.com/index.cgi

Could you tell me if you have all your live entertainment arranged from the

However, my band aren't able to play together during the summer and I'm

Can you offer anything or point me in the general direction?

charity. If every Celtic supporter buys a copy we would be guaranteed No1 in
the charts, how funny would that be? Hearing Dr Fox say on the chart run
down "and No1 this week-THE LISBON LIONS featuring M.O.N and the
supporters" and then see them on Top Of The Pops. So lets buy it and
get us to No1.

Best wishes to the Bhoys of
Portsmouth. I was with them in The Royal Exchange, Fawsett Rd when the
Juventus game was on. Proof that this site is working was evident that
night. Dave Paton who drinks there with only a couple of Tims informed us
that this pub was showing C/L games. We published it on our site and it
resulted in the pub being full to the rafters with the Bhoys in full voice
that night to the amusement of the locals.
